We believe that a Montessori education will give your children the groundwork for enthusiastic learning and discovery. We hope that you will embrace the timeless teachings of the Montessori approach as we guide your children in these most significant years of schooling.
We strive to provide a “home away from home” that fosters kindness, good habits, independence and academic skills. Assisting your children to learn is our privilege and we make every effort to provide an inspiring, caring and beautiful environment.
Snowdrop Montessori School is set in an expansive, sunlit Great Room. Both Janet and Maryanne are AMI trained teachers who work collaboratively in the classroom. The beautiful, open concept environment gives children the gift of autonomy with the freedom to balance their academic interests, their creativity and resourcefulness, and time with friends. This harmonious environment fosters a close community of children, teachers and families.
Maryanne Ortega and Janet Hume realized their dream of establishing their own school and opened Snowdrop Montessori School in September 2015. They possess a strong dedication to educating children using the Montessori method. They also bring a wealth of knowledge in childhood development and years of classroom experience to Snowdrop Montessori. Janet and Maryanne have a passion for Montessori education having each taught at various Montessori schools in Etobicoke and impacting the lives of hundreds of families. They share not only a longtime and amazing friendship but also successful teaching careers that both span more than 20 years. They are lifelong residents of Etobicoke. Janet and Maryanne are proud mothers and they each have three grown children all of whom enjoyed a Montessori education.
Maryanne trained as an Early Childcare Worker at Humber College and worked in nursery schools for several years. Having enrolled her own children in Montessori, her fascination led to her continued education and she received her Montessori Primary Diploma (Association Montessori Internationale) in 1992. Janet received her BSc. at the University of Toronto and worked in the business sector for three years. She realized that working with young children was her true passion and so she returned to school and obtained her Montessori Primary Diploma (Association Montessori Internationale) in 1983.
